In Singapore, one could already hear about corona virus coming from Wuhan ever since early 2020. Authorities have informed the people, so it was expected to become a pandemia. Inspiration came, so Singaporean musician and performer Alvin Oon was looking for a song with the right melody that could give the people some hope and encouragement.
“We here in Singapore heard about this virus from Wuhan since January. we realised it will reach our shores sooner than later. So advisories from our government went out to the citizens. So I thought it would be a good idea to write lyrics to a popular song so that more people can learn, understand, what to do and be inspired to overcome the virus. So that’s why the title Fight the virus. I wrote the lyrics, did the recording and edited the video within 48 hours and posted it out on Facebook and YouTube. It is important to do such things with urgency as people need to know. Soon it was getting featured by media in Singapore and Asia, then later on other parts of the world as well.”
Szingapúrban már az év elején is hallani lehetett a vuhani koronavírus terjedéséről, a hatóságok folyamatosan tájékoztatták a nyilvánosságot, így várható volt, hogy a járvány eléri majd Szingapúrt is.
A betegség mások mellett Alvin Oont is megihlette, aki Simon & Garfunkel Sound of Silence című, eredetileg 1966-ban megjelent dalára készített egy nagyon is aktuális átiratot. így nyilatkozott Fight the Virus c. daláról:
“Azt gondoltam, hogy jó ötlet lenne egy olyan dalra írni szöveget, amely már amúgy is népszerű, hogy az még több emberhez jusson el, s az emberek megértsék, mit kell tenniük annak érdekében, hogy legyőzzék a vírust.48 órán belül megírtam a szöveget,felvettem és meg is vágtam a videót.Fontos, hogy gyorsan cselekedjünk az ilyen dolgokkal kapcsolatban, hiszen fel kell hívni az emberek figyelmét arra, hogy mit is kell tenniük. Hamarosan aztán felkapta a média Szingapúrban, majd egész Ázsiában, végül a világ más részein is.”
