I made an interview with Caroline von Brünken from German new country band named IRON HAND from Munich, about their latest gig, a lockdown version of their song entitled Without you that they have just released last Tuesday.
What can we know about the song?
Caroline von Brünken: The song was already written about 3 years ago, and it was the very very first song I wrote for IRON HAND, together with my dear colleagues, Maximilian Höcherl and Micha Kunzi. Since then it has been the beginning of a journey for the band. And it was just about time to finally release it! 😀
Where did you gain inspiration for it?
C.v.B.:Well we were thinking about what we could write and what mood we wanna be in that song. So we listened to different tunes from Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum and many more artist that give us a lot of inspiration. I think it’s one of lots of different ways to write a song. We got inspired by other music and just had a story in our heads that we wanted to be written down.
What was the working and the creative process like?
C.v.B.:To be honest: the song was finished in just about a few hours. We kind of threw bits and pieces of lyrics towards each other and also the melody was very fast evolved. It really was a so-called „magic moment“ and we knew our first IRON HAND song was born right away. Then we recorded the demo vocals and everybody in the band was super happy with what we wrote.
To whom do you recommend it and with what kind of thoughts?
C.v.B.: To all those ex-partners you had in life, and of course, to yourself as an ex-partner of anybody. It is about the funny and awkward situation of bumping into each other by accident, about all memories that suddenly pop up in your mind and how you still feel something for that person with whom you have shared very intimate thoughts and situations – something you thought never could happen again cause you’re „over with him/her”. This is a feeling that everybody knows, and even just thinking about that situation to happen already plays tricks on your mind. Meeting your ex can be a very delicate situation.
What are you working on now that there is this quarantine situation, and there are no concerts, so you suddenly got plenty of free time?
C.v.B.: I had to laugh about that last part of your question! Since the quarantine, somehow there is even more to do – more phone calls, more conference calls, and staying at home doesn’t work at all pretty well for my home office, bccause you recognize so many different things you wanted to do earlier, but never had the time. I am quite busy right now, to be honest. But I think I am also speaking on behalf of my colleagues that this situation also has its good slowing down moments. On the other hand, home office is tough. We are already planning our new releases that are also going to be „lockdown versions“, since we are living in different towns all over Germany. So you can really look forward to hearing and seeing those next songs that are coming up.
When all this is finally over, we will be heading to a studio and record all songs (and even more) properly and release a whole album with those tracks. We’re really looking forward to that!
Until then, you will have to be satisfied with our wardrobes, living rooms, kitchens and whatever room ever fits for the sound of our next tune.
Thank you for the interview!
